Navy's Arrival
This little girl makes me so happy but her birth experience was something I wasn't prepared for. All the books, blogs, friends you talk to say you should have a plan but be ready for anything. Well, I wasn't ready for anything. My contractions started Thursday night around 10:30 but they were only 15-20 minutes apart. I tried to go to bed around midnight but they were getting closer together. I decided to get last minute things together just in case we would leave before the morning. Around 2:30am I was having contractions every 8 minutes but they were lasting for over a minute which is foreverrrrrr when they are happening but not close enough. I really wanted to wait until I knew they wouldn't send me home from the hospital. At 3:45 they instantly started at 5 minutes apart so I called the doctor. When she called back 30 minutes later, she said to come on in and she would tell the anesthesiologist that I was coming. My amazing friend Erica came over to stay with Merrick and we headed to the hospital. The cab ride was quick but as I was walking into the hospital the pain wasn't going away. We got sent to the triage room, which by the way was full of other women trying to have their babies, and Danny went to do paperwork. The pain was so intense I couldn't stop myself from screaming out loud. I kept telling myself that in 30 minutes I would have my epidural and things would be ok. When Danny came back I told him he had to go get someone because it hurt so bad and I felt like I needed to push this baby out. The nurses came in and confirmed that I was already dilated to 10 cm but they had no rooms for me to deliver the baby in and obviously there was no time for any sort of pain medication. They quickly wheeled me into an operating room and prepped the best they could but she didn't want to wait. If I remember correctly-things are a little fuzzy at this point- she came after only 3 pushes/screams. It was the most intense pain I have ever felt but I am so glad that it was quick! I always said I admire the women who can have a baby naturally but that I was never going to do it. Well, it looks like I did! Navy girl got a clean bill of health and we already love her to pieces. The moral of my birth story is that I need to head to the hospital right when my contractions start :)

We are so happy that Miss Navy is finally here! Merrick is the best big brother to her and really helps me out. So far she is a calm baby and doesn't cry too much unless she is hungry. I'm so grateful for my little family!

My baby goes to school
Merrick has started Pre-K! This has been such a change for both of us. The first week was the roughest week we've had yet in New York City. Adjusting to a new schedule (well..a schedule in general) was hard on him. We are still trying to figure out what is going to work best but his second week of school was much better! He goes 5 days a week which is a commitment. I have to remember that I have be somewhere each day at a certain time. No more plan anything, go anywhere,be back home whenever days for us. On the other hand, I am so grateful he gets to make new friends, become more independent and of course learn!!
The first of many school projects he brought home!

37 Weeks
Ok..now I am ready for baby girl to make her debut! The anticipation of when she will be born is killin' all three of us. My clothes don't fit, I'm permanently grouchy and I walk so slow for a New Yorker. Plus if I eat one more tub of mint chocolate chip ice cream, I might never eat it again the rest of my life-but it tastes so good!

One great thing about the East Coast is all the church history. We stopped in Sharon, Vt to see the birthplace of Joseph Smith. It was a very peaceful and quiet place and you could tell there was something special about the area. The home is no longer there but they have a few items left from it like the hearth for the fireplace and the front step. I'm really glad we drove home the long way so we could experience this place!
I spy Merrick..and Danny!
Sitting on the front doorstep of the old home.
One last race to the top of the hill!

Vermont is gorgeous! I'm going to say its the prettiest state I have ever been too. Danny had a cycling race up there last weekend so Merrick and I tagged along for the drive to practically Canada. It was a two day race with each day consisting of an 80 mile bike ride through the mountains and hills. Danny did AMAZING! He came in 3rd the first day. I don't know how he got back out on that bike and rode another 80 miles the second day but he did and finished with a great time. We waited at the finish line to cheer him on. It was hard to predict when he would be back so we ended up waiting outside in the gorgeous weather for a couple hours. It was a nice getaway from the city plus we got to see lots of corn fields and cows which reminded me of home...a little.
Waving to Merrick as he finished the first day.
